Short Term Goals as Councilman Bookmark and Share

tegacayI would like to accomplish three tangible things as your next councilman between April and November.

The first would be immediately establishing a volunteer board of business minded citizens focused on looking at ways we could improve our economic development. This would be a two pronged approach; cultivating existing commerce in the Stonecrest Area, and looking at future commercial opportunities for Tega Cay. Regardless of our feelings on protecting the “traditional footprint” of Tega Cay, development is going to occur outside our city limits. I want to find the best business minded men and women to focus on these issues and assist council in future actions.

Secondly, I would like to immediately assist council in working with Duke Energy to find a resolution to the challenges we face with the Catawba River Park. Being on the County Economic Development Board the past two years has allowed me to form positive relationships with Duke Energy leaders. I feel that resolving this could be accomplished if the right approach is taken. Working in business development, and before that in sales, you learn the art of compromise. This approach is crucial to success in business. We must find a happy medium with our local business in Tega Cay if we are ever to establish a positive reputation in York County.

Last, I would like to revist the council decision on the Tega Cay Golf Club, with regards to Pinnacle. I do not have the level of education on the matter that current council does, so I can not pass judgement on their decision. Having said that I feel that we must look at the most prudent approach to present management of the facility. I feel that Pinnacle has been compensated to generously for their level of work to date. Bottom line, I work in sales and in sales we are given a “performance” based income. I feel that Pinnacle should be afforded a modest salary for their daily work and then given bonus opportunities. The actual accomplishment I feel can be achieved short term is finding a clear sort term plan to return The management of the golf course and dining facility back to the private sector where it belongs. Government has no place in the free market. I feel the mess with the rest. and bar has proven that.
One long term goal I have and would begin advocating immediately, would be working with the Town of Fort Mill and York County on a “shared services” agenda. During this economic downturn we have all had to “band together” as individuals to make our dollar stretch. I feel that the city needs to make this same effort. Fort Mill is already our natural partner on many things, including education. We should look to partner with them on services (if possible) to decrease the burden on the citizens of the Fort Mill Township.
